As to Isac Newton and calculus, I think that all people who work with calculus can give thanks that his notation for showing which derivative was under consideration was not adopted, but that Gottfried Leibniz' system was adopted. Isaac Newton proposed that one dot be used to indicate the first derivative, two dots would indicate the second derivative, and so on. At least one calculus textbook has the comment, "Flies have been known to introduce unwanted derivatives."
