The biggest contributors to Texas' state and local debt seems to be "education bonds" and "economic development". Citizens are zombie-like when government school boards request bonds to build, upgrade, or maintain (new) facilities "for the children". In my county, I have yet to see a bond fail in 30 years. The state education agency's interference with local boards has grown bureaucracy. Standardized testing is a disaster - students are being taught to "take tests" not master curriculum. Textbook content reflects surrender to a perceived ADD epidemic. No school choice has wastefully driven up spending with no positive effect. Government should not build athletic stadiums & racetracks for "economic development", but even Texans allow it.
