At the outset (beginning of the last century), Progressives proudly proclaimed themselves as such- until they managed to demonstrate in what direction there "progress" was taking us. They then went underground and started co-opting the liberal side of politics, spending nearly 100 years undermining the electorate through the education system. After turning the connotation liberal into a negative they returned to the label progressive, having whitewashed the stain of the word away.
