The Brooklyn Dodgers helped name Stan Musial "Stan the Man" to a large degree for how during a game when one of the other St. Louis Cardinals treated Jackie Robinson with disrespect, Musial made it obvious that he wanted to show Jackie Robinson that Musial was all for his being in the Major Leagues. Willie Mays described how in the early all-star games Musial became a friend who was a ready supporter of the black players who especially faced difficulties when baseball was being integrated. Mays said of Musial that he never heard anyone say a bad word about Musial, not a single person. Several Giants-Cardinals trades could have easily produced such a person with a grudge. He was truly "Stan the Man." Rest in Peace.
