The ONLY response to our "blockade" (not actually a blockade, but since your entire premise is badly flawed, I'll just let that go) was a sneak attack leading to all-out war. It's not as if, for instance, ceasing Japan's brutal expansionist military invastion of Manchuria, begun in the early 1930s, would have led to the U.S. loosening its financial and commercial hold.
