What MLK would be considered today is an extremist fundamentalist. He would be considered an Uncle Tom and the whole string of less printable epithets associated with that term.
MLK's grounding in faith and belief in God allowed him to recognize evil. He fought that evil. It was no mistake that he referred to realizing the fulfillment of the American Dream by truly making all men equal. He sought to hold government accountable to God's laws by removing the evil of inequality.
By removing God from the public square, we can stop thinking about evil. And, since the government becomes god, nothing they do is evil. There is reason to despair for our country.
