Thus, Wilson and FDR, Progressives each, believed the government must provide a fiscal means, otherwise most people simply will operate from necessity and their rights won't mean much. However, their definition of rights was greatly expanded past the founders to include health care and a job. Now they would be aghast at the social welfare state that has developed as they expected families to stay together, God to remain in the public market place of ideas, and work to be each person's number 1 ethic. The social liberals have adopted some of the Progressive approach, but pitch the idea of family, God, and work. It is do your own thing and on the tax payers dime. So today, social liberal and fiscal conservative are an impossible mix.
