No, you entirely missed the point...not just of this article, but of Governing Philosophy 101. The reason that there are two parties in the US is because THEY REPRESENT TWO FUNDAMENTALLY DIFFERENT PHILOSOPHIES OF GOVERNMENT, knothead. You ARE Bob, Conscript. If you can vote democrat on ANY issue, then turn around and vote Republican on another, you simply are not paying enough attention. Do you realize that the most maverick of representatives from either party votes with his/her party at least 80% of the time? You may make yourself feel better by saying you vote the "platform" (which tells me you are not a political observer when you misuse the term like that), but they laugh at you when they get to Congress and get told how to vote.
