Perhaps the athiests he responded to weren't the students at the college, but were some of the many other people that one meets throughout a day regardless of where you go to college, or perhaps they were students whose Christian parents financing their education had chosen the college, or perhaps they had grown up as Christians but now were questioning whether they really did believe, or perhaps they were going to the college not because of personal belief but for some other reason, or perhaps the professor had only related to his students that this is how he responded to people who said they don't believe. In any case, the point still holds that if God exists, then he exists regardless of anyone's belief or unbelief.
