We face a real dilemma within the GOP. We conservatives can't win without establishment Republicans. We non-religious conservatives can't win without evangelicals who rightly demand support for their social agenda but which has become unpalatable for those "magic" independents. Somehow, Democrats hold all of their disparate groups together. Gay activists and conservative blacks vote D. So do unions and feminists. I'm not sure 2012 was a tipping point but it feels that way. If so, we must find a way to move away from iron-clad stands on abortion (which I hate) and gay marriage (which I oppose.) We need to be a fiscal party which stands for traditional values but not one that falls on its sword for them.
