It only looks like semi-autos—which, I hate to break it to you, are indistinguishable from revolvers in terms of rate of fire, and only slightly greater in terms of magazine capacity—are so deadly because the victims were so utterly defenseless. As a character in a Chesterton story once said, guns may have rendered spears obsolete, but spears are a great weapon against NO SPEARS. A semi-auto gun has nothing like the kill-rate of a machinegun, but it's a great weapon against NO GUNS.
