It's not about whether football players are out changing the perception of what is valuable in women, but my response was in reaction to the fervor emerging on the right against those who were offended by the comments. I don't expect Brent Musberger to change the world all by himself, but I do think we can expect him not to unnecessarily reinforce that world-view during a football game, where it has no place at all. Girls should be able to watch a football game without that version of "success" touted in their faces. Or, at the very least, they should be able to vocalize their concern about comments or programming with which they disagree without a campaign of indignant anger by the right.
