Right now, Nevada is doing pretty well without an income tax, although of course revenues from sales taxes went down during the recession and revenue from property taxes took a hit. A consumption tax would be a good thing -- resembling a flat tax. Unfortunately, the NV legislature goes into session next week for one of its 120-day sessions every two years (we're saved from them most of the time) and there's a push to reverse the sunsetting of several taxes that are due to expire this year. And, the teacher's union has been pushing for a business margins tax which would take effect on GROSS income, so that a company that was unprofitable would still have to pay the tax.
