The Italian communist Antonio Gramsci (1891-1937) developed the theory of needing to win the culture and its institutions, hence - take over the schools. From his prison writings was born the Frankfort School, a Marxist think tank in Germany which moved to the U.S. when HItler came to power. Princeton University made a place for them during the war and after the war most of them returned to Germany, however, some stayed here and helped shape our education system with Marxists ideas.
