About two thirds of the federal budget goes to entitlements, and is not voted on each year - it is on autopilot. The automatic increases are built into the system, and have been for decades. Many congressmen have never even voted on Social Security, Medicare, or Food Stamps because they are "entitlements" and are "off-budget". That's just how the system works. Do you really think enough Republicans (and Democrats in the Senate) can be persuaded to actually CAST A VOTE on these programs, let alone vote to CUT them? Get real.
