I'm sorry, but the notion that "an impasse" is ipso facto "a bad thing" and "moving forward" is always good, just defies logic. It's like deciding to move a patient who has been the victim of a traumatic accident. Sometimes the best policy is to DO NO HARM. The "fiscal cliff" nonsense is a perfect illustration. It really would have been better for the GOP to walk away, and let "going off the cliff" happen. Taxes can be dealt with at any time, and often are, retroactive to any earlier date (Clinton's tax INCREASE in '93 was made retroactive to January 1 of that year, a date before he was even inaugurated, for example). But what is NEVER really addressed is out-of-control spending. With very few examples, ALWAYS there are promises...
