it's funny, but to me the agressive rejection of reason and science has always been a characteristic of the hard right.
Take Steyn's column, for example. He's a foaming-at-the-mouth Rightwing extremist, and he doesn't like the present deal, so he's all about telling you that this little compromise only saved us from 10 hrs woth of borrowing because it had only two billion in spending cuts. He ignores that it also has some 650 billion in new taxes over 10 years, at 65 Billion/Year that's 32.5 x 10 hrs = 325 hrs of borrowing that we're avoiding via tax increases. Still not nearly enough,. but more than 10 hrs.
