Right sentiment, wrong battle, Bill. This was just a skirmish. The debt ceiling is the war -- next month. THAT'S the un-crossable line. This was an un-winnable battle. Bad things happened if we didn't do SOMETHING. But in exchange for higher taxes on a few (incomes over 450K instead of 250K!), we LOCKED IN the Bush tax rates for EVERYONE ELSE PERMANENTLY, and POSTPONED THE DEATH TAX for estates over 1M. We lost a battle. But with luck, Speaker Bone-head will succumb to this battle's wounds and a general with a backbone will emerge for the war. And the beauty of the debt ceiling war is, WE WIN BY DOING NOTHING. WE DON'T EVEN NEED A VOTE TO WIN! ALL WE NEED IS A LITTLE BACKBONE!
