I do not accept the premise that government interference has positive consequences. Usually, people have to point to military research to produce proof of how government has provided vital technology, but that defeats the purpose of their argument; the military is a legitimate government function and expenditure.
As for other kinds of government "help," the evidence is clear that they are never a good thing. Take the FHA mentioned by Mr. Barone. If those people are so credit-worthy and competitive, why is the FHA needed? Why didn't the private market loan just to them? The housing bust proved why they should not have gotten the loan guarantees. Any claim to the contrary is just subjectivism.
