An Assault weapon is classified by the U.S. Military as a weapon with selective fire. Thus with the capability to switch to Fully Auto. A rifle without Selective fire is NOT an assault rifle---just a Rifle. (Source: A FREE AMERICAN) Many rifles "look like" assault weapons," when in FACT they ARE NOT. Is the Government going to use the Military's definition of "assault weapon?" Or is the government going to come up with its own definition, thereby adding more confusion to an already simple definition???
