Your suggestion is despicable because it is demonstrably false. In fact, we had so-called "sensible" gun control for 10 years in the form of the Clinton-passed ban on assault weapons (sic) and large capacity magazines. The Justice Department determined that crime did not drop as a result of the ban and crime did not go up as a result of the ban expiring. Similarly, it can be (and has been repeatedly) shown that access to guns by law abiding citizens is consistent with reductions in violent crime while restrictions of same go hand-in-hand with increases in violent crime (just look at the UK as well as DC, Chicago, etc vs Virginia, Kennesaw GA, etc). Bloomberg and other politicians that are calling for a repeat of this "sensible" gun control
