As a frequent visitor to Key West (2-3 times a year, and a future resident), I am quite familiar with the Hemingway house and the cats. The museum operators have gone to great length to contain the cats, and have encircled the property with fencing the cats are unable to climb and escape, at least about 99% of the time. What is puzzling to me is the fact that Key West is overrun with protected feral chickens, which cause much more noise/damage/general annoyance than an occasional Hemingway cat. Key West is a very unusual town, and most people enjoy the diversity of laid-back weirdness, but there is an influx of lawyers setting up shop in paradise that is spoiling it. This is why KW seceded and became the Conch Republic (look it up).
