Excellent post, Dr. Brown. I have tremendous respect for your education, experience, and cultural influence for the Christian world view. And though you have forgotten more about the Bible than I currently know, I would like to disagree on one important point. While I do not address the morality / immorality of the practice, you stumbled when you stated that Jesus (in the passage regarding the "adulterous woman") spoke against stoning for adultery. If you go back to those verses, with no pre-conceived notions, you will clearly see that Christ did no such thing - in fact, He explicitly gave His divine approval of and permission to proceed with the practice, in effect, saying, "Ok, go ahead, then."
