Uber, quite right. More generally, Liberals believe that 'the spirit of the Constitution' is liberalism. They believe that the founders would have sided with them on all matters. That is why they are quite comfortable interpreting the Constitution to already say what they would have it say. They do not understand that the founders were not so naive as to believe they could rely on a government too kind to be oppressive. They wanted a government not powerful enough to be oppressive
