I read through LaPierre's comments and I don't see anything wrong or silly about the NRA setting up a training program for volunteer guards that states or local school districts could tap into. My problem with his comments is that he left out the most obvious, straightforward, and promising move, namely, to honor state-issued concealed carry permits in the schools so that there would likely be a few armed citizens--whether teachers, administrators, secretaries, or janitors--who could confront an attacker and stop the killing before two dozen people die.
