Many seem to think the role of the judiciary is to define their 'rights' for them when in fact the role of the SCOTUS should only be to define the limits of the power of the Federal government. Much of this change was due to meddling by the court itself as a result of appointments of liberal jurists by progressive presidents eager to expand their power. While many believe the current hostility between liberals and conservatives dates from the Clinton impeacement I would hold it goes back to the Bork confirmation hearings. As for Teddy Kennedy, Chappaquiddick was his defining moment. For this alone he will spend eternity trapped in an air pocket struggling for his next breath.
