The problem with young people like this is that they become completely immersed in the online community. I have a friend who's daughter is like that. She's perfectly capable of designing websites and even tutors other players online on how to play some of the games. She is incapable of functioning in the real world. I've known her since she was 9 and at 18 she was MUCH worse than she was at 9. Her mother was unwilling/unable to force her to actually participate in the real world and she went from a shy child to an unreachable adult. She was perfectly capable in the online world, but hopeless in the real world. As a result, many of these young adults are unable to distinguish between the real world and their online fantasy worlds.
