Star should think about what she has written here when she contemplates writing about gay people as if they are second-class citizens. She says "we ought to be thinking about the falsehoods we commonly accept." How about the falsehoods she spread in her column about gay marriage being a sign of "a lost society." In the real world, we are lost when we cannot accept people for the way they are and let them participate in the institutions that make for a healthy society. Here she writes that isolation and alienation lead to tragedy. Yes they do, and she shares the guilt for a few tragedies -- particularly when a young gay teen is murdered or takes his own life because life is intolerable. We need to protect ALL of our children.
