I worked as a lowly tech during '78-79, at the Galesburg Research Hospital, formerly associated with mayo, and at the time a place of confinement for the "developmentally disabled", violent and otherwise. Over the next few years I went into EMS and nursing, and as the facilities closed down and patients were given prescriptions and checks, i would see them in a different professional capacity. Most of them are gone now; victims of themselves and a system unprepared to manage the influx. More than once I did CPR on former facility patients who'd walked into traffic, in front of trains, etc. It's time to revers that trend. Sad but true: a significant portion of our society has no business on the streets, and not because they are criminal
