As a parent of an "aspy" and a brother of a severely affected autistic person I have some familiarity with this. The violence that Ms. Gallagher describes is mostly situational - kids whose frustrations and inability to communicate in a given situation cause them to act out. They may also do things without thinking through the consequences fully (e.g. pushing someone out of the way to get to the thing that is important to them at a given moment). These are very different from a well planned and prepared for attack. I don't think the autism community means to imply that life with autism is easy, they are pointing out that the link between violent, planned out crimes and autism is not there.
