Violent crime (not just gun crime) has always been lower in the uk than the US for two centuries, so comparing the overall totals doesn't prove either point. What is interesting and should be looked at are the respective trends in violent crime rates. In the US, violent crime rates have been continuing to go down every year, despite the increase of firearm ownership and and states that allow concealed weapons permits. Source the FBI crime statistics. Violent crime rates in the UK have been increasing. source the home office UK. Not just gun crime, ALL violent crime.
