NRACandy, you need a "real" history lesson, and original intent. Freedom is messy and not simplistic; no law is perfect or can cover all circumstances...there's always a "yeah but what about" somewhere.
The Federalist Papers were replete with concerns about government control and suppression and how best to insure the individual could protect itself against a suppressive government.
The 2nd Amendment was primary in this.
The Amendment was design not to permit pioneers and citizens the right to hunt or for self protection, but for government to fear its citizens, knowing the citizens were as well armed as the government.
The term militia is not referring to police or national guard, but would be similar to neighborhood watch.
