I cannot imagine a university professor making those kinds of public statements and not anticipating some sort of backlash. I just checked and he is an Assistant Professor of History and fairly young in that he received his PhD in 2008. This means he does not have tenure. Rule number 1 for academics - do not make these kinds of incendiary statements if you are a new hire and do not have tenure. The Department Chair, his Academic Dean, and the President of the University all know about this at this time. The university president will be getting a call from some of the Board of Trustee members asking what is going on. Who knows, Governor Lincoln Chaffee might even give the college president a call. Big mistake.
