How about starting with allowing at least one city to ban some guns as it sees fit (like DC or Chicago) in response to gun violence?
That's the thing, conservatives see this as some all or nothing proposition. There are lots of instances where the Supreme Court does a balancing test between individual rights and the safety or betterment of society. I don't think a city/state should be able to arbitrarily take people's gun rights away. But in a place where gun violence is an enormous problem, I don't think it's too much to ask that a city be able to ban guns if they and the law-abiding citizens that live there think it will make it a safer place. Because they're the ones ducking bullets on their way to school and the grocery store.
