Wind power has been around since about the first century AD. There are many reasons that it's never advanced beyond niche markets. The primary one is reliability. Another is scale. We've been developing wind farms for decades as electricity generators and as of now, they produce less than five percent of generated electricity. We've picked much of the low hanging fruit and the technology is simply not competitive with carbon based fuels.
