This is one of PB's better columns, but he like so many older white males who remember the winter of 1964 forget, culturally the country was very f@cked up as 1) blacks were called the n-word, told to shut up and sit in the back of the bus, 2) women were expected to mind their place (or if like Sandra O'Connor, told to get coffee!) and gays could be beat to hell, kicked out of their rentals and fired with no crime involved whatsoever.
It was great to be a rich, powerful white male back then.
Change is never easy or clean; and unintended consequences are always there. But we are a FAR better world now for most Americans than the long ago that guys likle Pat B long for ever waking moment of there lives. That's really sad.
