Im not saying that one does not have those things without unions. What I am saying is that in our current business climate of austerity to keep profits up, unions protect these things. Just because you have a gun in the house does not mean that you are guaranteed to use it; but it's nice to have if you have to use it. I see unions similarly. Keeps the Corp from taking benefits away - as GM did toward the end of the 90's
