Yes, I remember when I was a young, single mother (OMG) in the sixties and my living wage was $32.50 per week. From that I paid rent, groceries, etc. It never even occurred to me that someone else "owed me" anything. It did make me figure out that I needed to better myself and learn skills that would better provide for my daughter. That's exactly what I did without help from the gubment - no food stamps, no welfare and no educational assistance. The result was someone who took pride in her accomplishments and slowly moved up in the world. I'm old now and don't have much, but I have a daughter who is a success, believes in God and helps others. What more could a mother want?
