The problem was with the Bush tax cuts in the first place. His cuts needed to flatten the tax rate so that everyone paid close to the same rate. If this were done, then all tax increases would fall on everyone and everyone would have skin in the game. Bush was not a fiscal conservative. He was a big spender and ran up the debt. Sure it wasn't as fast as Obama but it set the stage for a 2 party choice: Big Spending Government vs Bigger Spending Government. The GOP has abandoned fiscal conservatives and libertarians to the point where spokesmen like Medved and Hewitt routinely call libertarians and Ron Paul supporters kooks. I am sure this would play well if the GOP were dominant and had 60% of the vote. But the GOP are losers. ...
