The tragedy of the Mormon diaspora from Nauvoo Illinois to dthe Great Basin brings tears to the eyes. Brigham Young, with all 43 wives of the deceased Joseph Smith, Mormon seer and founding prophet, took claim of the Great Salt lake for his Mormon tribe because, at the time, no one else wanted to stay in that bleak arid vicinity. With great iwsdom he sent his Destroying Angels out to pillage the emigrant trains passing by his fledgling town for re-supply of the "faithful" even going to war with the US Army in a breif skirmish to protect this right of piracy..However Mormon's are always pragmatists and sued for statehood, forswore rebellion against the US, and renounced polygamy (though all existing unions were allowed to continue)
