Democrats widely held through the 1960’s that schools should be segregated by race. Alabama’s Democrat Governor George Wallace widely held that discriminating against black Americans was a good thing, and that preventing the integration of schools would prevent the degradation of schools. His campaign promise was: “segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever". He stood in the doors of a school auditorium 1963 in an attempt to block the entry of two black students.
In the early 60’, Democrat Bull Conner, and his fellow Democrat travelers, widely held that peaceful Black Civil Rights demonstrators could be attacked with police dogs, and dispersed with high pressure fire hoses, and their message should be ignored.
