It isn't just today's Americans doing this. The Silent Generation, the Greatest Generation and their parents/ grandparents voted for the politicians who enacted Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. These generations have been the ones to benefit hugely from these programs, especially Medicare/Medicaid. Assuming a 50 year "working life", no one who went/goes on Medicare before 2015 paid in "their entire working lives". Boomers are often blamed for the mess, but the majority of Boomers were not old enough to vote in 1965 when Medicare/Medicaid were enacted. Our elders pushed their benefits onto us without concern. Make ratiponal cuts to current and future recipients to save these programs.
