In California I think the case can be made that the unions run the government.
Union reps have been able to sit in on backroom sessions when bills are being crafted. No one else has that kind of access or influence
The teachers unions are so strong they practically determine who will run from the democratic party and what the agenda will be. They even managed to get tax initiatives on the ballot to protect "school children" when really all the tax does is fund their retirement.
Just the last week clerks in the harbor went on strike - they make $180,000 a year and they want more job security guarantees.
The inmates have taken over the asylum!
