I'm pretty sure that the Bible also states that marriage is a lifelong commitment. So why don't we tell people who want to get divorced "if you don't like that, you shouldn't have gotten married"? Perhaps it's because like so many other things, we pick and choose what parts of the Bible we like and ignore the rest while expecting everyone else to live with those choices. Sounds fair.
