I don't think one can assign much value to a poll in America about socialism since it has become a very spongy term there. The term is not restricted to things like the state ownership of the water distribution system, the railroads, airlines, oil reserves, or national forests. I suspect also that Americans think that socialism automatically implies central planning of the economy and do not see planning and ownership as independent variables.
