A radical proposal:
75% of the FUNCTIONS ( not expenditures, but functions ) of the Federal Government
are self-financing. For example: mail a letter - you pay. Need a passport - you pay a fee.
Use a national park - you pay a fee.
Republicans should vote a Balanced Budget. This year. Immediately.
How to do it:
1. Seperate out all self-financing functions of the government: The Post Office, etc.
They would rely on their own funds, with no subsidies. Allow them to operate
as needed: the Post Office could charge more for stamps, restrict deliveries, privatize
parcels, etc., again, as one example.
2. This would leave only 2 functions to be financed by taxes: Welfare and Defense.
