Compassionate Conservatism isn't now, nor ever was the answer. It's what caused the 2006 butt kicking the Republicans got, and rightfully so was a reason the TEA Party got started. Since then, the Republicans earned the image that caused many to say "there is no difference between the parties" and probably kept many of those disheartened voters away from the voting booth. As much as I liked Bush for his handling of national security, I think he gave us the circumstances that gave us Obama. When you have a Republican president who says "we have to leave capitalism in order to save it", it gives us little hope that a Republican is going to do what it takes to "fix" things.
