100% wrong. I agreed with the pragmatic approach during the last showdown with Obama over raising the debt ceiling in 2011. I thought (as you do now) that Repubs would get the blame if no deal was reached. The problem with this thinking is that Obama and the Dems will NEVER agree to any immediate and meaningful cuts. Ever. All they want to talk about is higher tax rates, never a word about cutting a red cent out of spending.
Therefore, the right answer is to not give them anything. The house should pass a bill that the tax cuts (I would argue that they are the tax RATES given that most have been in place for at least 10 years) are in place for ALL taxpayers, and then go off for their Christmas vacations.
