I enjoy being a 'civil war' buff. Lots of interesting history, and people at that time. When an article like this is written it is always interesting to see the comments. What is so obvious to anyone that has studied that era that there is a myth about the war and what were the causes and the effects of reconstruction. In reality what the author is talking about is there are many many parallel with what was going on in 1860 and today. While party labels have changed the major issues are still big government vs. freedom, and the arguments have not changed a great deal.
