Maybe you're right, maybe not. But can the R's keep the single-issue, social conservatives happy without alienating the very swing voters needed to win a presidential election?
And are the non-single-issue R voters going to let the shrill social conservatives perpetuate the party image that has lost four of the last six presidential elections to goofballs like Clinton and BO?
R's should adopt enough libertarian principles (which would give them SOME principles, anyway) to ensure victory via the independent voters looking for any excuse to abandon Big-Government socialism. If the single-issue social conservatives want to sit in the corner and pout, or vote liberal, let them.
